I don't remember The Four Feathers!
One should not be too surprised if the temp-track bleeds through in Avatar - it has, after all, happened to some degree or other in all three of the previous James Cameron films which have had orchestral scores. -

A Christmas Carol - Alan Silvestri
Very enjoyable, though I can't add it to the roster of "wife-friendly" Christmas scores I'll get away with playing in the living room because of the action music. -

The Spiderwick Chronicles - James Horner
Me and this score just can't make friends. I find it way too overlong, uninspired and hard to listen. Very-very few listenable passages. One of Horner's least successful scores in my opinion. -

The link to The Four Feathers is kind of appropriate when you consider the plot.
I noticed the constant references too, which are quite pleasant to my ears since i liked that score; i also noticed BEYOND BORDERS references which is also a good thing.
Yeap, beyond Borders flutes and even the camboia theme is there.
I love four feather's love theme, and If you don't think about it, listen this theme in Avatar with this epic renditions if scoregasmic . In fact, there is not any epic rendition of the Avatar real theme in the climax.
NP: War from Avatar
it's so damn powerful! Except for some trumpets and FF theme Horner style is not present in the first 7 minutes of this track...wich is fine to me
I see where is Nicholas Dodd orchestrations...
I can't stop to think Horner had to listen some of "our friends" scores for this track. -

JP: AGORA - Dario Marianelli
Wow, I didn't expect this to be so epic. While I thought to be getting a wildly exotic, ethnic effort in the veign of the more atmospheric, quieter parts of Debney's The Passion, Marianelli delivers one bold, strong dramatic crescendo after another.
Though it could've benefited from more melodic thematic statements (yet they may become more apparent in repeated listens), the grand sound and ethnic flourishes make for an engaging listen. It also helps I don't mind wailing female vocals (only in my scores, mind you) because Dario makes good use of them, sometimes evoking Gabriel Yared's Troy.
Ultimately, this ain't making a huge impression yet, mainly 'cause of the lack of memorable themes (which has always been a strong asset of Dario's). Yet I can see the potential. -

Undoubtedly Horner's best of the past decade! (together with its more agressive 'of the forest' counterpart, Apocalypto). -

With repeated listens, it'll grow even more with you, the bold themes are all there, the brilliance, the melody. Ages beyond Debney's work of late (while you mentioned it), a mature, brilliant score, one of year's best.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Can Dario be nominated to an Oscar for Agora?Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Well, given the studio didn't opt for an American release (yet), it's getting unlikely Agora will be getting any nominations, unless they release it in the US real fast. It does seem an unwise decision not to, though. -

Too bad. I don´t like one of the best works of the year to be ignored in the awards season! Well, at least I hope Marianelli gets a nomination (and hopefully the award) from the spanish academy.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Which basically means it's just better than Soraya M., since all the other stuff he wrote don't count

A truly fantastic album!
