    Brothers Thomas Newman

I saw the film at the movie theater and I had to play the score this morning. The film's images have been haunting me since I came out of the movie theater. Though film. I cried during many scenes. There isn't that much music in the movie but when it is there, it works. The main theme is a subdued guitar riff. There is only one "upbeat" cue that is the theme for Jake Gyllenhaal's character. Now, I would love to see Suzanne Bier's film and hear Johan Söderqvist's score. They have it on musicme.

The original Danish movie is brilliant. I couldn't get it out of my head for weeks. Actually, I'm a bit worried about watching this remake, the original was so good.
As for the music, Söderqvist's main theme is really good but I can't remember anything else musicwise. This is not one of those movies that demand much music.

The movie is excellent. Jim Sheridan's reputation of being an actor's director is perpetuated in this one again. All actors ( Tobey McGuire (he will get nominations for his role), Nathalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhall, the two little girls and the grand-parents ) are convincing and serve the story so well. Newman's music is never over the top and supports the heavy emotional scenes in the movie too. I'll definitively try to find Suzanne Bier's movie at the video club up the street. I just hope they have it.

Cool Erik cool What else in on the lullaby mix? I was thinking ( straight off the top ) something from Goldsmith's A Patch of Blue would suffice too!?

Care of the Spitfire Grill, a piano version of The Flying Theme from E.T. (its on a compilation called Watch The Skies), For The Love of the Game, The Portrait from Titanic, Hurley's Handouts (which is actually Liam's Lullaby), Charlotte and Will from Autumn in New York, Passion of Mind, A Narnia Lullaby from The Lion The Witch and the Waredrobe, and various others.

It's a very raw, dark and exotic score, i wholly loved it but i can understand how it doesn't appeal to most.

    La Piovra - Ennio Morricone

This 2-disc album is not an easy listen at all. Far too many annoying suspense tracks for my taste but whenever melodies appear, they are all great. I especially love the frequent use of the organ.
I think that a shorter version with the beautiful melodic tracks with some additional suspense music would have been a better representation of the music on album.

No, most of his albums that I have are completely listenable or there are albums with only 1-2 annoying tracks and many-many beautiful highlights. But there are certainly Morricone albums where the level of annoyance given by the majority of the tracks comes close to my endurance-level.

I know smile But it's basically the problem with a lot of Morricone scores, they have those gorgeously romantic and sweepingly melodic melodies only he knows how to write on one side, and on the other end, some very, very odd and obscure, hard-listening pieces that too are his trademark. Program them out of the playlist has always been the solution for me wink

That's true if you're talking strictly score-wise, but if we are commenting on the subjective values of a listening experience at home when it comes to how listenable and pleasant it can be, i always program tracks that i don't like out. There's no reason to struggle to go through a piece i don't want to hear just because it's there, imo smile

Remember the Titans - Trevor Rabin

Again, bad release by Walt disney. Just containing only one score track. In fact, The Lion King release looks lot better than this one. However, i just adore that track "Titans Spirit". This track definitely rises our spirit, great composing and orchestration. Simply rocks! punk

This is one of the best score by James Newton Howard. The Hand of Fate - Part 1 is just superb track. I like main titles too but The Hand of Fate is real highlight of the score.

His coolest score so far. Probably the best sounding score so far too, unlike the generally more raw -and at times harsh- sound of his other scores.

    Yep, it does. Hence 'probably.'

    Up Michael Giacchino

Although it lacks the warmth of his previous two Pixar scores, in terms of recording, it's certainly just as charming. For some reason, I've only recently been able to enjoy this one away from the film - so it's probably not as accessible as Incredibles or Ratatouille.

It also contains Giacchino's most annoyingly infectious melody! (Something he excels at. I would go as far as calling him the king of short, catchy motifs!)

Why annoyingly? Up doesn't "groove" as much as the other two- Giacchino really nailed the scene "Married life"-nothing manipulative there. It just goes perfectly with that very emotional scene. This is like HGW and Powell Dreamworks trio score. Giacchino has composed three Pixar top notch scores one after the other.

Hooked to the very catchy Colette Shows Him Le Ropes theme. Much less on the bombastic side than Incredibles and Up, yet a truly gorgeous score. smile
