NP: Addio, Fratello Crudele - Ennio Morricone
I'd never really heard of this until tonight (though the main theme IS familiar from somewhere) and I'm thinking how I could have missed such a wonderful theme and (so far) wonderful score. I've just listened to "Frate Bonaventura" which is a stunning 9-minute piece that's another example of Dies Irae being featured in a film score.
Dark, brooding and very emotional (the latter based around that lovely theme) this is already becoming a firm Morricone favourite with me.The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

NP: Fantastic Mr. Fox - Additional Music Itunes Release
First listen. I really enjoy its quirkiness. Especially the train theme and the surprisingly mystical music for the wolf. And I love the Ennio Morricone references. -

NP: Robin Hood (Marc Streitenfeld)
I don't know what surprises me more - that a Marc Streitenfeld score has me hitting repeat at the end of the album, or that a Hans Zimmer imitation score has me hitting repeat at the end of the album. Either way, I'm having fun.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

BSG Season 2 - Bear McCreary
A good listen, it's really growing into something awesome. The musical styles are more varied (that electric bass is stunning), the repetitive taiko drumming is reduced a lot, a lot of the cues are more fleshed out and more interesting as a result. In short Bear's done good with this one.
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire - Joel McNeely
Utter brilliance. There's not a minute on this disc I think is below anything quality-wise that John himself has written. The rousing fanfares, the moody softer material, the new themes and rhythmic parts remain fantastic. In short this score absolutely ROCKS. Highest possible rating from me, a true Star Wars inspired score."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

La Jeune Fille et les Loups - Armand Amar
This has been my favourite Amar so far since it doesn't have those ethnic wailings and chantings he likes to include in all of his scores.
It is very relaxing, varied and pleasant to listen. -

STEVE JABLONSKY - d wars
There's something in his epic/dramatic music like this, the Island and Transformes which hits all the right buttons, no matter how cliched and unoriginal. For one, it's very well done, no annoying electric guitar crap, just big bold themes, bigger than life RC choir, long chords, the trademarked dense rhythms all over the place, love it.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

You inspired me to play:
STEVE JABLONSKY - Gears of War 2
What would RC sound like if they continued to their initial plan and never dwell into cheap and noisy walls of electric guitars and if they haven't gotten rid of the actual themes. Just play the 2nd track, "Hope runs deep" loud; it all speaks for itself!Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Is it as good a Kevin Riepl's score to the first game? -
- CommentTimeMay 23rd 2010
Different styles. I'd say as good, but yeah, different. The first one's a bit more varied whilst 2nd is good ol'fashioned RC-isms, whatever this implies.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Listened to a couple cues from his rejected score to the second game, and they were interesting (didn't finish listening to the rest). The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -
