His formal biography says nothing about his education, the teacher quote was taken from the liner notes to Beyond Rangoon.

Not true about his composers - Gavin Greenaway and John Powell even wrote operas together before they went MV/RC, Harry Gregson-Williams was a choirist and then learnt composing or conducting...

In fact most of his underlings have much better training than the man himself.

But, with the exception of Powell, none of them are better than him? dizzy

  2. Timmer, I talked about it (being better) with a Hollywood composer (Facebook chat), when I heard that he has a very bad opinion in the industry.

The composer told me that he is actually liked in the industry, as a very cool and down-to-earth person (something I experienced myself in at least two cases). When I asked him about the class difference between Zimmer and his composers, he said it's the passion. There is something to Zimmer's scores that is evident from Rain Man even in his worse scores. It seems to be widely seen that Zimmer makes up for his technical deficencies with simply loving his work and putting himself in full in everything he does, even if the score is not that good in the end.

NP: Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith - John Williams

It has some genuinely exciting action music, but the album assembly is absolutely horrible. The edits couldn't stand out more. vomit

    I'd vote for
The Last Airbender
, it's just such a satisfying listen once you edit the play order a bit. And then perhaps How I Met Your Dragon/How To Train Your Mother as the most fun score thus far. That one really has grown on me a LOT during the past few weeks.

All of his scores, even his worst ones? That's an extreme exaggeration. I love Zimmer but please, let's be realistic.

remove " Avatar has returned", " Fourth elements test" and "prologue" and put the suite at the end. the listening experience improve a lot.

Still I can say the parts withthout action are a rather uninteresting. A shame this "mystic" sound at the beggining of " fourth elements test" or in the end of the suite are not much longer in the atmospheric tracks.
It reminds me a little bit to "batman beggins" Tibet stuff.

    Anyway...

    NP:The Last Airbender ( JNH)

    It rocks!!!!!

Not perfect. But the overall thing it's highly attractive. And I love this typical JNH moments ( Journey to...)

The Trumpets in the beggining of "We could be friends" reminds me to John Williams Star Wars!!!

And..I can understand why Erik had an scoreorgasm with the fanfarre in the beggining of "Airbender suite". they doesn't make things like that anymore!

Question on Attack Of The Clones CD - why does this specifically not play on a computer?
  3. Not all his real fans like things like Sherlock Holmes, mind you.

I love how people say that Sherlock Holmes is probably all Balfe, if they don't like it and love Zimmer (Hans was not responsible for that crap, Lorne was), but honestly I think that Sherlock is mostly Zimmer.

Why? Balfe was supervising Modern Warfare 2 at the moment (Zimmer is reportedly VERY unhappy with the final outcome, because he didn't supervise it enough), which was 6 hours of music to write. Hans didn't do enough work (as he admitted to a fan) on MW2, because he was concentrated on doing Sherlock Holmes. So if you hate Sherlock Holmes, whoever does, it IS mostly Hans Zimmer's doing, perhaps a bit more than usual.

Take a dry wipe pen and make a small mark around the edge of the CD about 3-4mm perhaps - you should be able to see it. That part protects it from being played on a PC.

    Or download it.

I never had a problem with that CD. It ripped to my computer fine. But I know there were several different versions of that release so I don't know? Copy protection probably. Or sometimes you just get a really weirdly pressed disc. That happened to me with some smaller labels like MSM and CDBaby print on demand.

Also regarding Revenge of the Sith, my biggest problem with that album is that it's missing the war drums. Purists, leave me alone. I like them. sad

Totally agree. The bootleg has them, and I much prefer the film version of the opening battle music to the album version.
