Very cool industrial, downtempo electronica score with a melancholic twist.

Love it, works great in the film too. Have you seen it?

NP: Age of Heroes - Michael Richard Plowman

Pretty good even though the theme heard in "Heroes" is HEAVILY influenced by Harry Gregson-Williams and his theme from THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.

    K-19-The widowmaker (Badelt)

Pretty good, but I've heard better. There are a couple of good themes, but overall it's a bit too slow.

    My rating: ***½

Fantastic score for fantastic film. It was actually the first Horner album I bought in physical media since THE MASK OF ZORRO in, what, the late 90's?

NP: Thelma & Louise - Hans Zimmer w/ Pete Haycock, additional music by John Van Tongeren.

Very nice, very bluesy, breezy new age score. Haycock's guitar's work and Zimmer's synth sound scape combine for such a sublime listening experience. It's so good, with traces of Days of Thunder (one of my faves) and latter Something to Talk About and most of Zimmer's 90s synth effort as well. Hans' mentioned that there was about 15minutes of good music in it. I beg to differ and agree. There weren't much score for the movie, about 40-50 minutes or so, but all of it was suitably good. I love the 39minutes version that I have. I would love to see a full release/expanded version of this score.

October Sky was a lovely restrained chamber like score highlighted by the last three tracks especially the final cue "October Sky" which contains the most satisfying rendition of Isham's main theme

Oh yes! punk It's also very emotional and just a beautiful finale in the movie. It's many years since I saw the movie but I still remember that finale scene clearly. It had a great impact, and we have Isham to thank for it. I love when film music shines like this.

Hmm, excellent. Excellent musical soundtrack for an almost undeserving movie. From the epic opening to the grand finale cue, it's just great effort all around. I hope that one day the full musical score will be made available.

I find the movie absolutely stunning. The extraordinary score is the perfect companion for the extraordinary movie.

I actually like the movie, though I do think that there were too many flaws to be a perfect movie. The cartoonish treatment of the priests (for the kiddies!!!) and the stereotypical treatment of Moses's relatives, along with the swift storytelling, makes the, thematically perfect, score feels ever so heavy handed at time. When the movie was dramatic, it was great, but when it panhandled to the kiddies, I didn't care for it and the story suffered. But it's the high quality production of the movie that won it over for me. So, yeah, I like the movie too.

Must admit that it's been a while since I saw the movie, so I can't recall those moments, but I can't remember any moments that truly turned me off. If I had to offer any criticism it's that Moses is portrayed in a PC version, considering that he's a bit of a genocidal maniac in the Bible. But I do find the story in the movie way superior to the story in the Bible anyway and I can appreciate it on its own.

I've been inspired to listen to the Prince of Egypt album from reading this thread and wow, it just blows me away. Not only is the score brillitant, but the songs are absolutely wonderful. I'm probably the biggest opponent of musicals in the world, but the songs in this score are exceptions to my hatred of musicals. Each is a work of art, and they mix perfectly with the score.

hans also wrote with THE BURNING BUSH one of his best themes ever. the music captures perfectly the atmosphere in that scene. it has the right amount of emotion and feels not overblown. the vocals in this track are amazing. i also love the orchestration of the songs. it fits perfect to the score. and the film version of when you believe is 1000 times better than the pop version. the hebrew music part sounds wonderful and loosens up the song. the choir at the end is just epic.

Yeah, the songs are really nice. My favorites are the Zimmer produced "Deliver Us", Greenaway's "The Plague", Gregson-Williams's "All I Ever Wanted" and (just a bit of) Zimmer's "When You Believe".

The favorite moment of this cue comes right after the Burning Bush sequence, when you see enlightened Moses walk down, and Zimmer just hit a pitch perfect note with his grand orchestral statement accompanied by the voice of Ofra Haza. Sublime marriage of visual and sound there.

I worship the entire "When you believe" song. Michelle Pfeiffer & Sally Dworsky kicks the atrocious Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston version square in the nuts.

NP: THE BODY (Roger Waters & Ron Geesin)

One of the weirdest albums I have, period, this is the score to a 1970 documentary about the body. Contains bodily noises, including farting, burping and whatnot. It's also the earliest Waters "solo" effort, even though it was in collaboration with avantgarde composer Geesin.

NP: Drive Angry - Michael Wandamacher

It's a score that tries hard to be cool, just like the movie. The guitar theme and accompanying rock riffs for Nic Cage's character is pretty badass. Bill Fichtner's Accountant theme is interestingly understated. It's an uneven mix at time, but there's enough good in here that I won't mind listening to the whole album.

Listening to the original tracks at the moment and I am hoping that these could be released at some point in the future. They could do with a bit of a clean up and some loving remastering care given to them. But even as they are the raw power of Herrmann's tracks shines through.

The tempo of the main titles is ferocious!

    True!

With less and less exceptions I'm rapidly becoming very disinterested in film music, Marianelli, Yared...occassionaly Giacchino, Powell, Zimmer, JNH, Shore and a few others I'm near to not giving a fuck!

Williams and Morricone are of course an event.
