    The Musketeer - David Arnold

As I understand it, the album is a London re-recording. Was the original Munich session performance that bad?

I am giving this album away. Not that i do not like it, but I have this album double in my collection. I really like this album:

Yep, that's a fantastic score. Kudos for giving it away.

  2. NP: La fille du puitasier (Desplat)

There are not many film composers who could position their music alongside source cues featuring the magnificent voice of Enrico Caruso and not be utterly ashamed by comparison. A beautiful album, even if it could do with trimming the 1911 Caruso recording and leaving the other 3 in place. Desplat's best recent score (hard not to view Tree of Life as a late 2008 work by him, since he wrote and recorded it back then).

NP : ISLANDS IN THE STREAM - Jerry Goldsmith

Beautiful score. This is the FSM release, I don't really like Goldsmith's re-recording.

NP : WALKING WITH BEASTS - Benjamin Bartlett

One of my very favourite albums, it's rarely been far from my CD player since 2001. Of all the 00 scores this has been played far more than any other.

  4. Timeline Goldsmith

I love this album, kind of a blend between 'First Knight' and 'Star Trek: Nemesis'. He really was writing phenomenal music right to the end.

They don't come much more obscure than that.

NP: Cowboys and Aliens - HGW

Hmm, not a western score, but not necessarily a bad score. I was half expecting a full on western score. But, Jon Favreau isn't quite the director with an attraction toward old fashion orchestra. So I hear a, somewhat, typical HGW sound, akin to Prince of Persia, albeit with a southwestern bent. The themes are there, even if they're not in the Elmer Bernstein or any kind of western mode, but that's okay for me. I can see myself re-listen to this a few more times. Harry's score tends to make for a nice background audio while I work, so this could be a good addition.

A few reviewers mentioned that, due to the expectations garnered from the talented cast and crew, it's disappointing how underwhelming movie ended up being. From my experience with Favreau movies, he's not a great director, though I do love his Elf movie and most of Iron Man (especially the unwanted Ramin Djawadi score, but not the typical Debney sequel version). and a few clips that I've seen of C&A doesn't change my current impression of his ability. But to be fair, I'll reserve any judgement until I've seen the movie at home on HD.

The latest EMPIRE magazine gave it 4/5 so that's pretty good. I'd like to read more reviews to get a more balanced view and then I can decide if I really want to go and see it.

So is the score. Far, very far from Prince of Persia. Cowboys and Aliens is Gregson-Williams on autopilot and sleep mode.
