Currently on repeat. And it's already pretty repetitive. But for this week, it seems, I really get it. smile

Nothing wrong with repetition, if the repeated item is worth repeating.
A lovely score. And indeed, very much in tune with life right now.

I just bought that one online yesterday. I'm truly looking forward to it. In many ways I feel it's a greater candidate for re-recording than the Maurice Jarre scores. Waxman's writing shines when you can hear it properly.

I was listening a lot to this too this week, it's gorgeous really. Very solemn.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

When a lot of people talk about how good is a young composer I use to refuse the "hype". That's why I'm surprised to really like this...

NP: Battle Star Galactica Season 2 (Mcreary).

I had this score for 5 years, but I have never been interested to listen it. I was so wrooooooong.

It could be in my top 20 all time favourite scores. Why? because It has everything I like : orchestra, ethnic instruments, modern sounds, anthems, dramatic pieces, exotic vocals, electric guitars, a lot of percusion work...it really makes your mind fly to all this universe of Spaceships and extraterestial cultures.

"Escape from the Farm", " Pegasus", "allegro", "Something Dark is Coming " and the AMAZING "Prelude to war" are some of the highlights.

    I hear ya.

Me too, I'm generally rather surprised when something that everyone says is really good, actually turns out to be...really good.

Check out Human Target! Listen to an extended suite at http://www.cinematicsound.net/?p=124

His theme to The Cape (the score will be released on La La Land Records soon) is pretty solid as well!

Solid score but it's not one of my favorites from Korngold. Morgan, Stromberg and Bonn did an outstanding job though with the re-recording!

I far prefer Maurice Jarre's score which is aka CROSSED SWORDS.

Its a re-arrangement of a Bob Dylan song.

NP : NIGHT GAMES - John Barry

Barry's last score of the 1970's, for a sex fantasy by controversial French director Roger Vadim. I've never seen it but according to the liner notes it was universally panned, the track titles are...ermmmmmm...illuminating to say the least, Descent Into Decadence, The Lesbian Tango, The Wet Spot, Water Sports / The Dominatrix's Waltz, Phantom of The Orgasm... dizzy

I like the score, very dark and erotic sounding plus choir in a Barryesque way.

But there is a motive that I already heard a couple of times in other pieces from BSG.

McCreary used the tune in his score as well. Don't you have the liner notes? It's all explained there.

I still didn't read the notes. I prefer listen the whole scores I bought first. But I just wanted to know quickly for what or who was this piece.

I think what Jordi means is that it would be foolish to read the liner notes considering he wants to see the series first wink

I enjoyed listening to this score again, I by-passed GAME OF DEATH which it shares on the one CD and is a score I don't much like.

    Anyway, up next...

A very dark score and one of my favourites.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Johnny Williams

This Williams guy won't go far. Where are the guitars? The drum loops? The Batman Begins-style action music? This just will not do. This almost sounds like it was composed for the motion picture called Close Encounters of the Third Kind and would not be interchangeable with music from another film.

Actually in the decade of 1975-1985, there was quite a bit of samey-ness in the underscore of various Williams scores.

Jaws - Star Wars - Close Encounters of a Third Kind - Superman - Jaws 2 - Empire Strikes Back- E.T. - Return of the Jedi

You can't say that all those scores are original of themselves and there isn't a similar sound.
Revenge is sweet... Revenge is best served cold... Revenge is ice cream.
  3. Astute observations, James.

I too am listening to one of that composer's efforts to a little-known film called E.T. Unfortunately he's composed really obvious themes and subthemes. I'm guessing this music probably wasn't easy to ignore in the context of the film, probably really distracting from the sound effects. We don't even get a pop song over the end credits as he's composed original music for them. Shameless.

Excellent point. I think the Close Encounters score is quite interchangable with Star Wars. You could totally switch those scores and it would have very little impact on the feel of their respective movies. Jaws and Superman, same thing...
