NP : LIFEFORCE - Henry Mancini

One of the great scores of the 80's, what a giant talent Mancini was.

I finally picked up this set, and it's an absolute stunner. Empire sounds so much better than on the complete score. Haven't got to Jedi yet but hope it's the same case here as the complete sounds so muffled.

    Hot damn, Jedi sounds amazing!

I gifted this to my bro, but he still hasn't listened to both Empire and Jedi. And that was two (or maybe it was three) years ago.

To he (yeah you dude) who ignores some of the most incredible film score presentations of all time for so long: you better start listening fast or give it back, as I will make better use of this, guaranteed! crazy

But I do very much enjoy listening to the complete scores too. Once a year I pop em in, and I'm in FILM MUSIC HEAVEN!!! beer

I'll listen to them next year, I promise

Anyway, to answer James, I think people went gaga over it because it was one of last unreleased Morricone scores for a big movie; because of the gorgeous love theme; because it's an FSM release; because the release was supposed to have lots of material never heard before.

I did know that it would have some harsh militaristic music, but I was hoping that this new release would have more than just the militaristic music and the love theme. Are these two elements really all the album has to offer?

No, but they certainly dominate (particularly the militaristic stuff). You could probably make a fine 25-30 minute album from the material but it's spread very thin over 2 hours.

    Damn.

Ah, well, I'm still looking forward to it. Had hoped for more though. Since much of it was material never heard before, there was no way to tell whether it would turn out to be a gem or not. Shame it didn't turn out as great as it could have been.

NP: Russland - Im Reich der Tiger - Kolja Erdmann

Epic doesn't even to begin to describe this amazing score. This, along with The Wind Gods, is my film score discovery of the year! If this album holds up, it might make my Top 10 list. Damn, now I'm going to have to learn how to pronounce this composers name. crazy

On a side note... as we come to the end of the year I've picked 8 scores that will be in my Top 10 of 2011 no matter what. I have short list of 15 scores that I would consider best of the year contenders. It's been a few years since I've had to make a tough decision like this. Usually, I have a harder time finding at least 10 great scores to add to my year end list. I like this year's dilemma much better.

    Dawson's Creek (Adam Fields)

One of my most listened to albums. Just so warm, gentle, beautiful and memorable and melodic throughout. The perfect background music.... and the perfect foreground music for that matter.

Try these clips. Couldn't find some of my favourite tracks from the album on youtube though, but these clips are still very nice.
