So, who's now going to be there?

Thor, Jim, Thomas, Elin and me for sure.

    Timmer? Martijn? Alan?
    Steven? Anthony?

  3. Has anything been specifically arranged for times around the concert? It'll give me an idea if I can do the trip in a day or whether it would be best to stay over.

We arrive in the early morning, around 9AM. It'll take us an hour or two to get to the hotel, check in and return to the center, since the place wasn't chosen for its location but for the best beds. Anyhow, that means we'll be available around 11AM.

My idea was a picnic kinda thing in Hyde Park (or another park for that matter) on Saturday afternoon (if the weather permits). What would be nice too if someone who knows London a bit more and who's joining (who actually is now, my question gets ignored every time???) could address us to a good bar/bistro for an afternoon of talking/fun/drinking. Or perhaps we can go to Berwick Street and do some music shopping in between some drinking at that Irish pub The Green Man? wink

Around 7PM some of us will need to go t the concert hall. I guess we'll be back around 11PM-ish? Thor invited his friends for more drinks after that, so I'm up for having a late evening.

I don't know for the next day, but Thomas, Elin and I have to leave around 2PM.

  4. I'm going to be there, only an occasional poster but I read the forum all the time. I'll be in London that weekend so it will be great to meet some of you. I assume the final details will be posted here on this thread? I'll be living on a boat in Saudi Arabia from tomorrow until the night before the meeting so won't be able to check the forum till then but if someone posts the time and place here then I'll see you all there. Looking forward to it!

To hell with the pictures! Make sure you bring a camera - you never know how these meetings turn out!

  6. To people who know London - especially the area around the RAH - are people after the concert likely to travel back into the city centre or are there enough pubs around the RAH?

I just realized that the RAH is close to our hotel (Hilton Metropole), so a pub and/or night club close to that would be pretty neat. Short way home and all that.... smile

But I'm all for other suggestions as well.

I don't know what my friends have planned for the day, so I don't know if I'm gonna hang with them first or just have an all-out independent day. We should plan a pre-concert meeting in any case....after all, I'm the one sitting on Bregt's and Jim's tickets! tongue

Isn't it a bit too cold for a picnic, though?
    I am extremely serious.

I'm still trying to organize things.
I have already found it's impossible to fly in and out on the same day, which is rather a setback (financially).

    So...working on it!

  7. Anyone know what the area around Queensway/Bayswater/Lancaster Gate tube stations is like (north of Hyde Park)?

There seems to be a number of 2*/3* hotels at a reasonable price (£70/night) in this area. And it's quite convenient for the city centre and RAH.

I'm not sure what you mean.

If you mean what line Lancaster Gate is on, it's the Central line (red). As is Queensway. Bayswater is on the Circle & District line (yellow & green, respectively.)

  10. Ah, so not Picadilly.

I vaguely remember from my visit to London that Picadilly line "covers" both RAH (South Kensington) and Hyde Park (was it Marble Arch?). That's why I was asking.

    That's not reasonably priced. shocked

There's a couple of cheaper hostels around that area, with also 2 persons rooms.

    It's all relative!

Believe me, it is cheaper than the places I first checked - and these were just places like Travelodge/Premier Inn; the places I usually stay when I'm visiting parents in Scotland. These places are more than double the price in London compared to what I'm used to.

I've had actually. For two days there was a strike of one of the unions during my stay in London, which led the city to a halt, almost. We had to walk from Big Ben to Royal Albert Hall (my host invited me for two Proms concerts and that was one of them) and later take a cab to his house at Ealing.

It's usually fine during the week, but engineering works can arse up weekend transport (however there are none planned on the 10th that would affect this area).
